What type of care am I looking for?
If you are looking for care for yourself, a friend or for a loved one, selecting the right type of care is important and the process can often be daunting. At Dovehaven we understand that you will have questions and are more than happy to answer any queries that you may have. Some of the most common questions that you might have can be found on our FAQ page, however if not please call us on 01704 546177 and we’ll do our best to help you. Care homes fall into two main categories, those that provide personal care and those that provide nursing care.
Within each of these categories we operate homes that also specialise in care of elderly clients who suffer from dementia or other related mental disorders.
Residential Care Homes
Provide accommodation, meals, laundry as well as staff available 24 hours a day to support and assist clients with all aspects of personal care, including assistance with washing and dressing. Our staff within these homes are experienced and many NVQ qualified in Health and Social Care.
Nursing Homes
Provide all aspects of care that residential care homes provide but with the additional input of Qualified Registered Nurses being on duty at all times.
There are 4 main types of Care Homes for older people:
Care Homes
This is for older people requiring a basic standard of care, without nursing, and is generally known as a Rest Home. These Homes provide accommodation, meals and personal care (such as help with washing and eating).
Care Home (Elderly, dementia and mental disorder)
These Homes are for older people with mental health problems like dementia or Alzheimer’s, who require a basic standard of care. These Homes are generally known as E.M.I. (Elderly Mentally Infirm) Rest Homes.
Care Home with Nursing
These Homes are for older people requiring Nursing Care and are generally know as Nursing Homes. These Homes will have registered nurses to care for the residents health needs.
Care Home with Nursing (Elderly, dementia and mental disorder)
These Homes are for older people with mental health problems like dementia or Alzheimer’s who require Nursing Care. These Homes will have registered nurses to care for the residents and are generally known as E.M.I. Nursing Homes.
A care assessment will help you understand which type of Care Home will offer the level of care that you need
What is a care assessment?
A care assessment is an essential part of the process of finding the right level of care or the right type of Care Home. Everyone, whether publicly or privately funded, is entitled to a care assessment which will be provided by your local social services. A care assessment is nothing to be worried about, it will just involve talking to a person about your needs and how you wish to live.
How do I find a good home?
The best way to make sure that the Care Home you are looking at is suitable for you is to ask questions. Make sure you get all the information you need, then go and visit the Home so you can meet the staff and other residents and see what the atmosphere is like.
All homes will have a Statement of Purpose which explains the services offered by the home and a Service User Guide which is designed for potential residents.
Additionally all homes are inspected by the CQC (Care Quality Commission). CQC publish reports on their website giving their inspection results following compliance visits made to each home.
How will I pay for my care?
Once the level of care that you require has been established a financial assessment will be undertaken by social services. There are varying levels of funding available from both social services and the health authority. Our office staff will be able to answer any questions you may have in this area.
